Bacon Biscuits with Roasted Apple Butter

These biscuits are the bomb diggity. Do people still say that? Or am I starting to show my age? Heck, I’m only 32, but compared to (most of) my classmates, I may as well be 50. Especially since, after rereading that first sentence, the song “No Diggity” by Blackstreet popped into my head. A quintessential seventh grade dance song.

Anyway, my friends here at school didn’t understand why I preferred to stay in and cook the night before Thanksgiving. After all, it’s supposedly one of the best drinking nights of the year! Yawn.

You know what gets me excited? These biscuits. They don’t just have bacon bits in them, they have the bacon fat in the actual dough. As in, no butter, no shortening, just a whole lotta bacony goodness in every bite. Continue reading

The Ultimate 100% Whole Wheat Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Chocolate chip cookies ordinarily need no introduction, but these are pretty special. Last night, Connor said he wanted cookies, and I remembered I had a bag of Ghirardelli chocolate chips in the pantry, so I figured I’d throw together a quick batch. I then remembered I was running low on all-purpose flour, so I decided to use only whole wheat flour and see what happened.

Jeweled Fruitcake Biscotti with Homemade Chocolate Sea Salt: The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap!

This year, more than 600 food bloggers from all around the world participated in The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap. Every blogger had to create a cookie recipe to feature on their blog today, then send three other bloggers each a dozen of the cookies, Secret Santa-style. In turn, everyone also received three different types of cookies from another three bloggers!

I decided to make biscotti because I was worried about shipping the cookies across the country, and figured I had the best chance of success with a sturdy biscotti. I then thought that I should do something kind of holiday-ish, but I also wanted something inventive and new. Continue reading
